The ancientcity of Nessebar isone of the oldest cities in Europe and one of Bulgaria’s most treasured. In 1956, it is declared a town of architectural and archeological significance and a city-wide museum, and in 1983 UNESCO includes it in its World Heritage List. Built on a small rocky peninsula, old Nessebar has preserved many valuable historical sites, dating back to Roman and Medieval times, as well as numerous Byzantine and Bulgarian churches, which are considered its greatest treasures.
